Family visit to Triberg from Stuttgart--recommendations?

We are thinking of visiting Triberg one weekend during our stay in Germany this summer. If Triberg is worth the visit (i.e., not too touristy or commercial), please offer recommendations of places to stay. We are a family of five. Thank you.

You can%26#39;t do much wrong on this in the Black Forest.

More interesting for kids than Triberg is e.g. the Vogtsbauernhof Black Forest open air museum near Hausach (also on the railroad from Offenburg to Triberg).

Having visited it last week by car, I interesting noted that although the train tracks have to be walked under to access it, there is no train station. I suppose there are ones in either Muehlenbach or Haslach on either side, and then a short bus ride. But it%26#39;s a shame not having a train station right there at such a good tourist attraction. Interesting, and I certainly recommend it. It contains large Black Forest farmhouses that have been moved and reconstructed there from areas throughout the Black Forest.

Actually, Baden-Wuerttemberg has quite a few of these open air museums, and all are well worth visiting.

I took a daytrip to Triberg last year by rail. I was having trouble with my knee and found the walk from the rail station to the waterfall to be fairly steep. And then, you have to walk up the paths to get the best views of the waterfall. If your children are very young, they might have trouble with the changes in elevation.

If you are traveling by car, then the walk from the station could be avoided.

Thanks! Does anyone have recommmendations for lodging there (or very nearby)?

|||

If no one gives you any specific recommendations, you can access the tourist office and their accomodation information by going to www.triberg.de . Information on most places in Germany can be found by going to www.PLACENAME.de, just substitute the actual place name. www.schwarzwald-tourismus.de (Black Forest tourism) and www.tourismus-bw.de (Baden-Wuerttemberg tourism) will also have accomodation information.

To get to the open-air folk museum, can we walk (or take a bus) from the train station in Hausach? Does anyone know how long that would take?

|||

Just go to the website www.bahn.de , change to English and enter From: Triberg To: Vogtsbauernhof If there are any selections, it is the Gutach one.

Different means of transportation will be shown, and if you click on one of the options details will be given.

It%26#39;s possible that the quickest way is by bus only, although you might also have a train to Hausach with a bus from there. If you are staying within the Black Forest, these buses and trains should be included when you use your KONUS card which you should receive from your hotel.

Start: Hausach, Bahnhof

Dest.: Vogtsbauernhof, Gutach

It%26#39;s a 30 min. walk from Hausach train station, the footpath is signposted.

Thanks. As we would not yet have arrived at our hotel (and would not have a Konus card yet), I think we would be using the B-W regional train ticket, which usually includes local buses, as I understand?

|||

Yes, the B-W ticket should include the buses.
