Looking for input on Itinerary....

Is this a good itinerary ? Id it rushed ?

Any other suggestions ?

We are a family of 4 with children 12 and 10, and are planning a trip through the Black Forest by car in July.

Day 1: Leaving Reims France for St Goar. (arrive mid afternoon) Staying 2 nights.

Plan to visit Rheinfels castle and cruise Rhine via KD line.

Day 3:Leave St. Goar for Triberg and spend 1 night.

Plan to see waterfalls etc.

Day 4:Leave Triberg for Fuessen. Staying 2 nights.

Plan to see both castles.

Day 6: Leave for Austria/Switzerland

Thanks Bill

Of course it%26#39;s too rushed. In and around any place in Germany should be enough interesting sights to last for several weeks, Germany has over 30,000 castles and palaces alone.

On Day 3, you are going to Triberg to visit what is to me a questionable waterfall, although it%26#39;s the highest in Germany, it%26#39;s not impressive like Niagara Falls or the fairly close falls of the Rhine at Schaffhausen. On the way to Triberg you will be passing Heidelberg and Baden-Baden among other places, if you are planning to actually see some of the Black Forest and not drive quickly thorough it, you won%26#39;t have much time to stop at these places or within the B.F if you do.

The same is true of Day 4. Those falls of the Rhine aren%26#39;t much out of the way, and Lake Constance ( www.bodensee-tourismus.com ) is also along the way to Fuessen, and is a premiere German vacation destination in itself, as is the Black Forest ( www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info ). Incidentally, Meersburg ( www.meersburg.de ) is the loveliest town on the lake and has Germany%26#39;s oldest castle. By the time you arrive in Fuessen, you have already driven past Switzerland, so going back may be a detour for you. Fuessen, however, is next to Austria a short distance away.

Additional websites for Baden-Wuerttemberg tourism ( www.tourismus-bw.de and www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de for the excellent palaces, castles, medieval monasteries and gardens operated by B-W) as much of your route lies withion this German state. All given websites can be changed to English.

Oh, and if you stop to visit Germany%26#39;s largest castle (fortress) ruin, Hohentwiel (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ) which sits atop an old volcano, between Triberg and Fuessen, I%26#39;m sure that your children will probably remember it more than Neuschwanstein, after making the long climb up to it.

If you are in Fussen make sure you take the time to see the Wieskirche, only a 20 minute drive away:

I agree with Meersburg as a nice stop as well. Any plans to get over to Garmisch on the way into Austria? Once you get to Fuessen, what part of Austria are you headed?

Triberg was mentioned for the waterfalls and Cuckoo Clocks. We have been to Niagara Falls, so we may skip this. I am sure there are other places to buy Authentic Cuckoo Clocks (any suggestions).

Right now, probably skip Triberg....

The Switzerland part is only because we are flying out of Zurich.

Now we may spend more time in the BF.

Thanks
