Honeymoon in Bavaria

Hello.

My girlfriend and I (early thirties) get married at the end of September. We%26#39;re looking for somewhere interesting to go on honeymoon and Bavaria is an option. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel for under £100 a night? And could anyone advise on good restaurants and things to do when we%26#39;re over there?

Thanks very much in advance.

I%26#39;ll stick my neck out and recommend Hotel Spitzweg in Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

And in that town, restaurants abound; also in adjacent ones along the Romantic Road, down to the Alps.

If you prefer mountains, go down to Mittenwald, but weather is possibly not so good at that time of year.

If I were to get married (again), I would go to Fuessen and stay at the Villa Jagerhaus. Don%26#39;t know what the rates are in September, but from the corner rooms (#42) you would have a view of both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. Link below:

You can get over to Munich, Garmisch, Wieskirche, Ettal and into Innsbruck from here pretty easy.

Room prices at the Jagerhaus are on the website and might be a bit more, but it is worth every penny if you want to impress!

I agree with bwelsted on staying at the Villa Jaegerhaus, you%26#39;d have a hard time finding a place more romantic than that. Although all rooms have a palace view, some are only of nextdoor Hohenschwangau Palace and not Neuschwanstein, so specify that Neuschwanstein view. For my review, click on my name. Another reviewer has taken some nice photos. We like it so much, we%26#39;re planning to go back again this year, and the restaurant across the street in the associated Hotel Lisl is excellent. If the musical is still on, although expensive, it is excellent. The nearby town of Fuessen is pleasant and has things to see, there is a summer bobsled run, and the opportunity for hikes into the Alps.

Another romantic place is Salzburg, Austria (barely across the border from Bavaria), just make sure to stay in the old town for its lovely ambience. Besides the very pleasant city and its attractions, it literally sits on the doorstep of the German and Austrian Alps for some magnificent scenery. (Of course, Neuschwanstein is also on the edge of the Alps and even closer to them, the mountains are right there.) There%26#39;s plenty of interesting things to do in and around Salzburg to last you weeks, including a visit to the underground salt mine, a visit to the ice caves at Werfen (to me a must, nice castle also), a boat trip on the Koenigssee for some of Germany%26#39;s best scenery, a visit to the bishop%26#39;s water garden where he liked to play tricks on his guests with water, and perhaps a Sound of Music tour if that interests you. And for dessert, split a Salzberger Nockerl.

A very nice hotel in Munich:

Really cool rooms! Good connection to the city by train or subway.
