Bamberg hotel suggestions

We are traveling to Germany in September for a 2 week road trip and plan to land in Bamberg for a night. Any suggestions for a hotel near the old town that has charm and character without breaking the bank?

I have stayed at Hotel Weierich (sp?) and once at the Barock Hotel am Dom. Both were within walking distance of the beautiful old district, one of my favorites in Germany. I don%26#39;t know what breaks the bank for you, but both were very good value (Barock more of a splurge to me). It was a while ago, so I had the advantage of a more favorable exchange rate. Both had helpful staff. Weierich would be the more basic choice. I was coming by train. If parking a car is a concern, you will have to inquire, as I do not recall what arrangements they had for parking.

We stayed at the Altstadthotel Molitor, the building has been recently renovated from one of its many prior uses. The room was pretty standard, but the location had character. The hotel was located in a cobblestone alleyway close to the downtown. It was just across from the Klosterbräu Brewery-Restaurant. It was a few minutes walk to the cathedral.

The hotel breakfast room was small but comfortable and offered a decent breakfast.

We took some pictures including the Brauerei (brewery) and the rabbit warren of alleyways near the hotel, unfortunately not of the hotel.

We would stay there again.

May I suggest, that whichever hotel you choose, you stay two nights if you can? Bamberg Altstadt-old town--is a wonderful and great for walking and exploring, though hilly, with a rich history. Also great beers (many breweries) and food.

And--are you going to visit the Vierzehnheiligen )Fourteen Holies)Pilgrimage Church, some kilometers northeast of Bamberg? It is the ultimate Baroque church and unbelievably ornate as only Baroque can be.
