Munich to lucerne

Please advise the fastest way to Lucerne from Munich---We noticed train takes 8 hours. Is there a faster way. We will arrive in Munich on Oct. 14, 2009 at 9:00 AM%26lt; Also, reverse trip on Oct 19, 2009

Munich is not really close to Lucerne.

a) you could rent a car

4+ hours

However such a long drive is not the best idea after a long flight with jetlag.

b) fly to Zürich instead of Munich

1-1,5 hrs to Lucerne

c) go to the much closer Bavarian or Austrian Alps instead the Swiss Alps from Munich

e.g. Garmisch region or Berchtesgadener Land

We%26#39;re going from Munich to Interlaken on June 1 and yes it takes the whole day. Is there a reason you are flying in/out of Munich? We are flying out from Basel so we only have to do the long train trip once. If you have to fly in out of Munich, there are some budget airline options to shorten your journey in at least one direction.
