Interesting stop on trip from Rothenburg o.b.T. to Garmisch

We will be traveling from Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Garmisch-Partenkirchen on a Saturday. We will be visiting Munich after our stay at Garmisch.

So, other than Munich, where would be an intersting place to break our trip?

We have a couple of different routes that we can take; we don%26#39;t necessarily have to go via Munich.

Would prefer some interesting sight/s within easy walking distance of the train station or that is easily reachable by public transportation directly from the train station. Would like to break our trip for about 3 hours.

Any suggestions for a town that is often overlooked by most tourists? Any restaurant suggestions?

(LOL, a question that does not involve how to get to Neuschwanstein Castle!)

Most of the fastest connections are via Augsburg anyway.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: Rothenburg ob der Tauber

To: Garmisch-Partenkirchen

you can enforce the route

Via: Augsburg (with 03:00 (hours) stopover)

and travel cheap (Bavaria Ticket EUR 28,00 for 2-5 persons) if using regional trains only. Select for this %26quot;only local transport%26quot; as means of transport.

Thanks, I%26#39;m planning on using the Bayern ticket.

By the way, Abalada, can I purchase all my train tickets at one time at the train station at the Frankfurt train station?

I%26#39;m planning on using RMW to get from Frankfurt to Bacharach. I%26#39;ll need Bayern tickets for three separate days: Rothenburg to Garmish; Garmish to Salzburg and Salzburg to Munich. Can I just buy all three at once?

Correction: buy all train tickets at the train station at the Frankfurt airport

You can buy the Bayern Ticket for dates in the future. Either from the ticket machines or at the counter (EUR 2,00 more expensive each). Bayern Ticket comes with no change, no refund.

In principle also online, but

a) this shop is only in German

b) will add a one time shipping fee of EUR 3,50

Abalada:
