Gig in Nordbank Arena

Hi all,

Going to a concert in the HSH Nordbank Arena in Hamburg in June.

Never been to the city before, and we (two girls) will be staying two nights.

Is there a particularly good area to stay for easy access to the venue? We%26#39;d like somewhere close to decent nightlife and a bit of shopping!

All hotel recommendations will be checked out!

Thanks in advance.

are you going to the Depeche Mode concert by any chance? I%26#39;m visiting Hamburg for the first time, to see DM too!

As i%26#39;ve not been there before, can%26#39;t give any first hand advice but we are staying at the Dammtorpalais (there are a few hotels in that complex, can%26#39;t remember off-hand which I%26#39;ve booked for but I think its the Wagner). This is near the station Dammtor from which i understand is on a direct train route to the stadium.

From what I%26#39;ve gathered from my research, this is a nicer area than that around the main station but still with bars and restaurants etc.

If you want something a bit livelier, whilst still easily accessible to the stadium, I guess around the main station may be better? Hopefully someone more familiar with the city can advise you on this.

Personally I wanted to stay away from that area, as so many hotel reviews looked a bit dodgy. Also a tad wary that my boyfriend may end up looking like a pimp, escorting myself and 2 female friends around the seedier areas of the city! :-)

Yes, we%26#39;re heading to DM too! Thanks for your help, will get searching for somewhere to stay.

Hi flufferama

The Dammtorpalais mentioned is indeed quite central and you can easily walk to Dammtor Station from where you get to the Nordbank Arena and also to the nightlife at Reeperbahn by tube (S-Bahn).

If you want to go out for breakfast lunch or dinner, you will find many bistros and restaurants in the Colonnaden or in the Grindelviertel - both are in walking distance from the Dammtorpalais. For shopping, you should also head for Colonnaden from where you can easily walk to the city centre (Gaensemarkt, twon hall, Spitalersstrasse, Europapassage,...).

The hotels near the main station are indeed in a lieflier area though the area itself is also a bit seedier. The hotel Graf Moltke though is supposed to be quite a good one and is directly opposite the main station. So if you don%26#39;t mind the area being a bit seedy, this should be ok as well.

By the way, I%26#39;m going to that DM concert, too ;-)
