Where to stay in Friedrichshain

Hello!

We are planning to be in Berlin for about 10 days this fall. I have found a number of nice looking vacation apartments in Friedrichshain (this is the area that most interests my wife and me).

Other than the fact that Simon-Dach-Strasse is where most of the action is in the kiez, I don%26#39;t know much about which areas are the most desirable.

For instance, are Ostkreuz and Warschauer too far from the center of the neighborhood?

Would it be better to stay north or south of Frankfurter Allee?

I understand that the whole area is generally safe, but we are looking to be where things are going on. Are there parts of Friedrichshain that are dull or too out of the way that we should avoid?

We are not big partiers, but we would like to be in places that are still busy in the evenings and would give us a good taste of the neighborhood.

Thanks!!

you%26#39;re correct that simon-dach strasse is where a lot of bars, clubs and restaurants are (actually the side streets off simon-dach are where the better places are)

Warschauer is about a 5 minute walk from the bottom of the simon-dach strasse, ostkreuz is a s-bahn station over, closer to mitte. Personally speaking I prefer the area south of frankfurter allee rather than the north (it%26#39;s more residential and can be very quiet), theres much more going on, but in general nowhere is too hectic or noisy. I live on simon-dach next door to Astro, one of the more popular bars which is open to 3am some nights, but it%26#39;s never too noisy to bother me sleeping.
