I%26#39;m arriving into Frankfurt and trying to get to Wurzburg. The train station is under the airport (I think) but I%26#39;m not sure what time i%26#39;ll get out of airport. My German friend has advised booking a train but I was going to just go down and chance thenext train . It will be around 8 on a Friday evening. Does anyopne have any experience or advise. I am reluctant to book as I dont want to miss and it is quite expensive.
Thanks

I have traveled to Wuerzburg from the airport many times. I never book in advance. There are trains leaving about every half hour. The trip takes a little less than an hour and a half. The Wuerzburg train station is very central and convenient. Right now %26quot;Normalpreis%26quot; is 35 Euros 2nd class. I%26#39;m sure TA posters will advise of better rates which might require pre-booking, but if you can%26#39;t, don%26#39;t worry about catching the train or making a reservation.
If you go to www.bahn.de for schedules and prices, be sure to enter the city as Wuerzburg Hbf (main station) Also, you need the umlaut (%26quot;), or an e after the u. You would be leaving from the Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof (you can click to English in upper right hand corner of the site).

Also, the train ride requires no changes en route--you can climb aboard and just kick back...

%26gt; The train station is under the airport (I think)
The regional train station is below terminal 1.
For the trains to Würzburg you wan to go to the far distance train station (Fernbahnhof aka AIRail Terminal).
a) discounted specials
Here you have indeed a problem if you miss the train, as these tickets are only valid for the connection they are bought for
b) normal price tickets
are flexible.
%26quot;to book%26quot; in the sense of reserving a seat is an optional task completely independent from your train ticket. If you reserve a seat on a train and miss the train the fee for the seat reservation is of course lost. But with either EUR 2,00 (when reserving together with buying a ticket) or EUR 4,00 this won%26#39;t kill you. Friday evening is a peak travel time, and a seat reservation won%26#39;t harm.

Thanks a million that was exactly what I needed to know.

The far distance train station is in a building next to terminal 1. Just follow the signs.
Irland -%26gt; Frankfurt?
You%26#39;re not flying with Ryanair by accident? The above applies only for Frankfurt International Airport (FRA).

Great that will really help. No Aer lingus not Ryanair.
|||
Why not stay in Frankfurt for the night and leave the next morning so you can see the scenery.

In March I flew into Frankfurt from the US. It took only 45 minutes from when I left the plane to get my luggage, go through Passport Control, Customs and get to the rail station.
I printed out the different train departures from the German Rail website www.bahn.de which helped me get the first train out. Having that information ahead of time was one less thing to worry about.
