We are planning on visiting Dachau when we visit Munich in June. We are hoping to go in the morning and were wondering how long one normally spends there...? We will be going ourselves and just renting the audio guide.

I think you%26#39;ll spend a good two hours minimum to get the feel of the place, and it%26#39;s not tiny, so there%26#39;s fair walking distances. But you could spend all day if you wanted.

Thanks for your two questions about Munich in June. We%26#39;re also going in June and your questions are two that I had too! We are two families traveling together. Do you know how long the train ride is from Munich to Dachau?
|||
I am not entirely sure, but I think it is only like 10 miles. However, I think I read somewhere to allow an hour, but I don%26#39;t know if it was an hour for both ways or an hour for each way.

2 hours would be enough time,the train ride is aboat 20 min from Munich.

From the main station (hauptbahnhof) allow approx 30 mins for the S-Bahn and bus combo to get you to the actual camp. Once there you will spend a minimum of 2 hours- if you read and actually look at all the exhibits etc you can spend much more time than this... but if all you want to do is %26#39;do%26#39; Dachau then 2 hours... if youre interested in the history be prepared to take half a day etc... and please please dont go around asking where the ovens and gas chambers are... you will find them but this site deserves a little extra respect and time for obvious reasons. Enjoy and take the time to take in the history...

Kepinitreal - Thanks for your information. I was planning on at least a half day. We want to do a bike tour later in the day at 4, so I really just wanted to make sure we would be back by then if we started early in the morning. I am sure this is not a place to be rushed through...
