Driving out of Munich on a Sunday

Hi,

I read that in Germany, shops are to be closed on Sunday by law.

Hence, I will be renting a car to explore areas outside Munich. Are there great places to visit by car?

I have read about Chiemsee and Neuschwanstein Castle. Can I drive there easily on a Sunday?

They are in opposite directions. You would be better to go to Neuschwanstein then drive via Austria to Seefeld, back into Germany at Mittenwald. Take a cable car up a mountain there, and drive back to Munich, (in my view)

No problem driving on Sunday. Can%26#39;t imagine a more beautiful ride than down to Neuschwanstein. Stop by he Andechs monastery and have a beer on the way.

And be sure to stop in the Wieskirche. If you%26#39;re this close make sure you go by!

I believe that you are planning to visit Lake Constance. Do Neuschwanstein on the way, as then you don%26#39;t have to backtrack to return to Munich. If this is the case, then visit Herrenchiemsee, Ludwig II%26#39;s version of Versailles, on an island of that name in the Chiemsee. You could also visit the nextdoor Frauen Island which has an old convent and appears to be a pleasant place to visit from their internet website ( www.fraueninsel-fuehrungen.de ). You%26#39;ll also get a boat ride out of this trip.

I would love to have a good beer in Germany since alcohol prices are ridiculous in my country. However, I have indoctrinated myself not to drink and drive so the beer drinking got to wait till I am back at my hotel : )

My current plan is drive from Munich to Lake Constance area on Monday morning. So Sunday I have a car to travel out from the town.

From Google Earth, Chiemsee seems to be near Salzburg. It might make more sense to cancel my one day return train trip plan from Munich to Salzburg and cover Chiemsee and Salzburg by car within 1 day.

Would it be very rush?
