Train travel through SW Germany

My wife and I are travelling by train from Interlaken to Frankfurt in October, and likely to stay in Mainz before flying home.

Do you have suggestions of places to see and places to stay on this general route?

SW Germany is Baden-Wuerttemberg. A few useful websites (or click on my name to see my hundreds of forum replies for this area):

www.baden-wuerttemberg.de Baden-Wuerttemberg

www.tourismus-bw.de Baden-Wuerttemberg tourism

www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de excellent castles, palaces, medieval monasteries and gardens operated by the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg

www.schwarzwald-tourismus.info Black Forest tourism

www.schwaebischealb.de Swabian Alb tourism, with its many castles, caves and excellent cliffside scenery- my favorite area of Germany

www.bodensee-tourismus.com Lake Constance tourism

www.meersburg.de Meersburg, the loveliest town on the lake with Germany%26#39;s oldest castle

www.stuttgart-tourist.de Stuttgart tourism

www.burg-hohenzollern.com Hohenzollern Castle

www.tuebingen.de Tuebingen tourism, our favorite German city to repeatedly visit

www.heidelberg.de Heidelberg

www.ulm.de Ulm, with the church with the world%26#39;s highest church spire

You could easily spend months in this are of Germany and not run out of excellent things to see and do.

Oh, I just noticed the October travel. Stuttgart is home to the world%26#39;s second largest beer festival, Cannstatter Volksfest ( www.cannstatter-volksfest.de ), from 25Sept to 11Oct, if you can fit that into your schedule.

Great thanks for this advice. Our general plan is to visit smaller centres on the trip.
