I have one extra day to spend while staying in Germany and I am trying to decide on the best day trip. Was thinking of taking mikes bike tour day trip to ludwigs castles, but heard alot about Neuschwanstein. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

where do you stay in Germany?

good question: i%26#39;ll be staying in munich

in which case, how does Rothenburg fit in?
Neuschw is, of course, one of Ludwig%26#39;s castles and you%26#39;ll see it on the M B T.
Rothenburg is not in the Alps; I would advocate a stay there, but probably not a day trip from Munich.

if you have a chance to go to Neuschwanstein for the day do it. Also if you can get to Wieskirche and the monastery at Andech (both small detours)all the better.

Rothenburg is great if you like strolling though a quite and tranquil medievil city with huge walls around the town.
Neuschwan is also great, and you must do the tour inside the castle.
Having done both of these myself, if I had to choose only one, I would do the Neuschwan simply for the wow factor when seen for the first time inside and out!
Hope this helps
Trav.

Rothenburg isn%26#39;t a day trip from Munich - it%26#39;s too far away.
Neuschwanstein is the logical choice.
