Christmas Markets 09

We are thinking of visiting the markets in Berlin this year can anyone recomend a reasonably priced central hotel

Markets are all over the city, the prettiest probably on Gendamenmarkt though I like the one near the Memorial church (Zoo station area) and also near the opera on Unter den Linden.

You cd compare hotel prices on venere.com or look at www.accor.com which covers the chains Mercure, Etap hotel, Ibis and Suitehotel.

The latter 3 are next to each other on Anhalter Strasse near Potsdamer Platz, which is pretty central. I%26#39;ve stayed in the Etap hotel several times; it%26#39;s the most basic ofthe lotbut still en-suite.

Thanks very much ....I knew there were markets all over the place but couldn%26#39;t work out best area to stay.

Try the hotel California on their web site we stay there 2 times a year. Great location on kudam. We will be there in nov for the markets.

Assuming you want to do some sightseeing as well as the markets I%26#39;d suggest you stay in Mitte as there are then more sights within walking distance. Kudamm is great if shopping is very high on your list but otherwise the only major sights nearby are the memorial church, the zoo and aquaium, plus KaDeWe department store (a sight in itself).

Those accor hotels are strictly speaking in Kreuzberg but only one street from Mitte. Potsdamer Platz is near and there are winter activities there, if no actual market.

Alexanderplatz area is also good for markets (there%26#39;s one right onthe square for starters.

Last year we went out to Spandau to look at the market in the Old Town there. That%26#39;s an U- or S-Bahn ride, as is the one by Chralottenburg Palace.

Thanks very much for responses................just need to go and get booked!!

The Accor hotels on Anhalter Str. suggested by Lynda are perfect - I always stay there. They are right on two MetroBus routes and 3 S-Bahn routes, and about a 10-minute walk from Potsdamer Platz. Bus M41 goes from Hauptbahnhof to Anhalter Bhf in about 10 mins. The past two years there has been a Christmas market at Potsdamer Platz, but as there are 17 in Berlin, you won%26#39;t have any problems finding one.

I am all about value for my dollar and staying at the nicest hotels I can afford.

We are headed to Berlin to kick off our Christmas Market trip and I snagged a room at Melia Berlin for 80E a night.

Priceline offers Marriott for an average of 75 USD per night.

We like the luxury of a nicer hotel and therefore these would be my personal preference. biddingfortravel.com has a lot of information on bidding for hotels in Berlin.
