Having been stationed in Germany for three years with
all the beautiful little towns, I cannot believe that Kiel and it%26#39;s environs are not worth a look.
Are there no points of interest or nearby cities w/o going to Lubeck or Hamburg?
Suggestions, PLEASE.

In addition to the already mentioned locations:
The lakes around Plön, Malente, Preetz
Climb Bungsberg, the highest mountain in the whole of Schleswig-Holstein (167 m above sea level, wow!)
The landscape east of Kiel with hills and lakes, forests and fields, manors and villages is known as %26quot;Holsteinische Schweiz%26quot; (Holsatian Switzerland`) and is most beautiful right now while the yellow rapeseed fields are in bloom.
Open air museum village Kiel-Molfsee
Kappeln an der Schlei
Glücksburg castle near Flensburg
Husum
Ratzeburg
Mölln
(Sorry I%26#39;m too lazy to google all those links...)
