Hello everyone,
My daughter and I will be travelling by train from Vienna thru Germany with Paris as our final destination (we fly out from there). We have a total of 3 days before getting to Paris.
Obviously, we have a very limited time- so every minute counts! Any thoughts on a reasonable itinerary would be highly appreciated.
We%26#39;re not planning on renting a car.
Thank you much!

A likely route is Salzburg, Munich, Augsburg, Ulm, Stuttgart. Stuttgart is the end point for the French TGV. Atound anyplace in Germany should easily be several weeks of excellent things to see and do. I live in and enjoy Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) with its mineral baths, vineyards, and big city sights. Besides its attractions, a few excellent places to visit from it a short distance away are Esslingen ( www.esslingen.de ) with its well preserved medieval center; Ludwigsburg ( www.ludwigsburg.de ) with Germany%26#39;s largest perfectly preserved Baroque palace (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ), the Swabian Versailles, with several days%26#39; worth of excellent things to do; and Tuebingen ( www.tuebingen.de ) with its hilly cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, castle, interesting nontourist shops, and one of Europe%26#39;s oldest universities, our favorite place in Germany to visit repeatedly. For other things to see and do, just click on my name for my hundreds of forum replies about this area.
It%26#39;s hard to give real useful advice without knowing your interests.

Thank you very much marcopolko!
What you%26#39;ve mentioned so far is very helpful.
We%26#39;re interested in a mix of big city sights as well as old charm and culture. We won%26#39;t be driving, so that might limit our choices to some extent.
This trip is only a taste before we come back some time in the near future for a longer stay. However, we%26#39;d still like to experience all that we can during the short 3 day trip.
Any further thoughts would be great!
Thanks again :-)

Although not a big city, I think that Salzburg is an excellent place to stay and meets your needs. The old town has a lovely ambience, stay in a hotel in it. It also literally sits on the doorstep of both the Austrian and German Alps, for some nice scenery. It%26#39;s one of my favorite places in Europe. Personally, I would spend all your available time there, even though I also love both Tuebingen and Stuttgart.

dear fasttrack,
another option would be munich, regensburg at the danube river, würzburg, frankfurt:
munich:
www.muenchen.de/home/60093/Homepage.html
regensburg:
www.tourismus.regensburg.de/tourismus/de/772
würzburg:
wuerzburg.de/en/…index.html
frankfurt:
www.frankfurt.de/sixcms/detail.php…
all these cities are easily accessable by train, and the TGV to Paris take about four hours from Frankfurt!

Thank you marcopolko and blondetom!
Your recommendations really helped us with this itinerary dilemma!
We%26#39;ll be working on the details based on what you mentioned. Might come back to you with more questions :-)
Thanks again!
