3 days in Dresden: City only or include outskirts

Hi all,

I am visiting Dresden in mid August for 3 days. With 3 days should I limit myself to the attractions within the city or can I afford to squeeze in the outskirts?

Definitely visit the outskirts. Do the steam boat ride to Pillnitz Palace.

An excursion to Moritzburg Palace, Meissen or another castle in the area would be doable within the three days. Or to the National Park. Too many options :-)

Prague in the Czech Republic could be an option as it is only 2 hours by train from Dresden. If you got an early train from Dresden and get a later one from Prague back to Dresden, you should be able to see a lot of Prague (Main sites, not including museums).

When I went to Prague last year, I spent a day in Dresden and went back to Prague the same day and saw a lot. I thought Dresden was a better city than Prague and it was the highlight of my trip.

Visiting the town of Meissen (as suggsetd), with a stop at the famous Porzellan Manufaktur would make a nice outing. My favorite, however, is a visit to the Bastei and the Festung Koenigstein, both with their great views of the Swiss Saxony region and the Elbe river.

Go to the %26quot;Search%26quot; box at the top of this German Formum, enter Dresden (left) and Bastei (right) and you will get a whole host of suggestions and impressions, including transport advise. But don%26#39;t shortchange Dresden itself.
